I contracted Collaborative Construction LLC to help me with structural and architectural renovations to my 1876 Charleston single home. This home has been a passion project for me and I was determined to find a contractor whose knowledge, attention to detail and commitment to quality were paramount in helping me restore a piece of history. Kyle couldn’t have exceeded my expectations any more than he did! Kyle was always prompt and timely for meetings, proactive in bringing up potential issues and things we need to be budgeting for, and a fantastic planner and communicator for how the work needed to progress and what the overall schedule would be.

His attention to detail both from a budgeting and craftsmanship standpoint are second to none. I myself having been in the construction industry have been continually impressed by his ability to create details to deal with the complex as built conditions of our home in order to ensure that we do not compromise aesthetics for functionality.

All in all I cannot speak more highly to Kyle’s abilities as both a Project Manager and as a builder. His thoughtfulness, honesty, and positivity are a credit to his profession. He’s certainly my contractor of choice for any further work I have in the future.

Over the nearly two years we’ve lived in Charleston, many of our friends have purchased and updated homes. Every single one who has used a contractor other than Kyle has told us horror stories. We know two people who still have unfinished kitchens because their contractor simply stopped showing up or they had to fire him because of poor workmanship.

When we were thinking about renovating our almost 100-year-old house, we were impressed by Kyle’s soft-spoken, respectful nature, the way he listened to our needs and wants, and his honesty about pricing, timelines, what he thought the team could handle, etc. Every time I hear someone talk about their awful renovation experience I thank the stars we found Kyle. We took our house basically down to the studs, installed an HVAC, added two bathrooms, redid the kitchen, added a staircase, and finished the attic- it was a TON of work. And (this is insane) we moved in on the exact day Kyle estimated we would move in when we first started the project six months earlier, despite pandemic delays! That never happens!

We can’t recommend Kyle highly enough. We really appreciate how open he is about what’s going on with the project. If something was delayed, he would send us the communication from the manufacturer. If someone who was supposed to come work on something wasn’t able to make it, he’d send us a screenshot of their text. We always knew what was going on. We weren’t happy with the work of the tile installer, and Kyle took that feedback seriously, and made it right, allowing us to totally stay out of the uncomfortable conversation with the installer. When we went out of town while work was happening he checked on the house every evening. When we came back, we made a list of things we noticed that needed little updates, but when Kyle came to walk through with us he already knew about all of them and was already planning the corrections. We rehired Kyle later to do an additional project and we will keep rehiring him every time we need a contractor because there’s no way we’d go with anyone else. We tell all our friends about him.

Kyle impressed me with his attention to detail and comprehensive construction knowledge. When examining a project, he thinks creatively to generate an effective plan and then does thorough research to find highly qualified professionals to complete the tasks at reasonable prices. I appreciate Kyle’s cost-consciousness, as we had an extensive list of repairs that needed to be done within a set budget. Kyle was very upfront about how long our project would take, and let us know when our timeline needed to be adjusted.

I worked with Kyle for roughly eight months. He was the project manager for our renovation, which was very complicated and potentially extremely costly. I was worried about finding a company with the expertise and access to quality professionals to complete the work effectively. Kyle answered all of my questions immediately. He has a unique way of explaining complicated construction issues in a way that I could understand. He made sure that all of the work completed was done well. He was sensitive to our privacy and always called to let us know when workers would be arriving. I always knew that Kyle would handle any issue that arose on the worksite, It was a relief to know he was taking care of our home.

In the spring of this year, we hired Kyle to renovate several failing load-bearing beams in and under our home in Summerville. While doing this job we also hired him to renovate our master bedroom closet. The project involved our kitchen, family room, master bedroom, and cellar. The house is over 100 years old and in otherwise excellent condition so we were cautious about who we hired. Kyle proved to be excellent in every way. He carefully and thoughtfully communicates his creative, sensible, and cost-conscious thoughts on options. I appreciate his attention to details that even I did not notice. He worked carefully with the subs so that the few issues we did have (and the renovation stretched from May 17 to the end of August so there was time for many) were resolved to our satisfaction. I am sure we will be involving him again in future renovations or building projects if they occur.
